Although some people do not necessarily think of us, a celebrant can perform other ceremonies besides wedding and funerals. Granted, these are the main services we provide but even then, there are many variations on the way these can be conducted. Prior to the change in Australian marriage laws, we did a number of commitment ceremonies for same sex partners. We have also officiated at a number of ‘informal’ remembrance ceremonies to celebrate the life of loved ones, as well as formal funeral services.
Perhaps you and your partner would like to re-commit to each other for a special anniversary and are looking for a fun way to make this commitment in front of your family and friends. There are a number of ways a celebrant can help with this as they have will have the resources to plan a commitment ceremony to suit your personal needs.
Has someone in your family had a baby? A naming or welcoming ceremony is a great way to acknowledge this without the formality of a Christening. A celebrant can plan this occasion and officiate at a joyful ceremony that will celebrate the new arrival in a memorable way, with symbols appropriate to the family.
It’s not just the humans in the family that have special occasions either. You can celebrate the special occasions in your fur baby’s life too! This might be a blessing or a naming celebration or even just on the occasion of a birthday. This might be a stand-alone ceremony or it could be combined with a special occasion in your life – a blessing for your pet included in your wedding or a naming for your child and pet in the same ceremony. Of course, a remembrance ceremony to celebrate the life of a pet can be a great way to acknowledge the important role they have played in your life.
If there’s a ceremony you want to hold, then a celebrant is a great place to start.
